IT was if the Sandy Gallop players had shared in a US Masters or Australian Open victory such was the celebrations seen at the club.
The jubilant golfers even took off their shirts and dived in the river at the 18th hole.
The scenes at the Churchill golf course on Sunday afternoon were befitting the historic achievement.
The Sandy Gallop Tigers earlier beat the club's Gallopers team 3-2 in the Moreton Districts Challenge Pennants final at the Ipswich City golf course at Leichhardt.
The title decider was a tight struggle coming down to the last game. Tigers "assassin'' Gary Neill fired a magic shot on the 16th hole to secure victory.
Neill had played every game this year, defying the final pressure to complete a new chapter in Ipswich golf history.
Club stalwarts like Tigers player/captain Bryan Davies believe it was the first time in 30 years Sandy Gallop had won the pennants title.
To have two Gallop teams contesting the decider added to the memorable milestone.
That's why Davies united everyone when the players returned to Sandy Gallop on Sunday afternoon.
"It was hard to have my team sitting there celebrating the win when you look at the other team wanting to be the team that won,'' Davies said.
"So we turned it around and I said to the boys to have a drink because it's no longer a Sandy Gallop Tigers win. This is a Sandy Gallop win now.
"We're at home and that game is done. This is ours now.''
Davies earlier showed similar leadership skills by caddying instead of playing on Sunday.
He helped teammates Neill, Daniel Hooper, Col Evans, Matt O'Connor and Brad Meier retain their composure by hosting a breakfast at his Brassall residence before the final.
"I just didn't want them to get nervous,'' Davies said.
"We sat down and had a talk.
"I said 'you guys had played well all year and it's just another game. The quicker you get over your nerves, the quicker you'll settle into your game'.
"I could have played but I just think sometimes the captain's job is to support.''
Sandy Gallop's reward was a massive celebration and boost for the club. "It's exactly what we needed,'' Davies said.
"As you can see in Ipswich at the moment, we're not getting the rain this year that we need for a course and our dams are a little bit low.
"It's hard when the course conditions aren't great at home.
"You bring this (success) to the club and there was not one person that wasn't smiling about it yesterday. It was terrific.
"It was so nice to see the club just getting it together and going 'this is our moment'.''
Passing the cup around, sharing the sweet taste of victory and jumping in the river proved that.
